The Code of HarryThis is a featured page

As soon as Dexter's father, a law enforcement officer, noticed that his son was showing signs of psychotic behavior, he started to teach him how to deal with his violent urges. "The Code of Harry" contains the set of rules Dexter's father taught him to control, mask, and channel his urges.

Harry Morgan | James Remnar on Dexter

You're my son, you're not alone and you're loved.
— Harry Morgan

What Dexter learned from his father about life:
  • Killing innocents is NEVER allowed
  • Always take time and make sure you have the right person-EVIDENCE
  • Be extremely careful with the killing and more importantly the PREPARATION!

  • Remember: YOU control your urges to kill, they don't control you.
  • Fake emotion and normality to fit in.
  • never get caught!
  • When taking a psychology personality test, always answer the question with the opposite of what you feel

______________________________

What Dexter learned from his father about death:

  • That it's real, and that it will happen to everyone. It's just a matter of how and why it happens.

  • Cops care a lot when other cops are killed.

    • People are sad when their loved ones die and they are full of grief, the one thing Dexter has trouble faking.

      The Code of Harry

Purpose: According to Harry: "It's not about vengeance, not about retaliation, or balancing the books -- it's about something deep inside."

      Tenets of Harry's lessons
      :

      1. Don't get caught.
      2. Killing must serve a purpose, otherwise it's just plain murder.
      3. Be sure.
      4. Blend in -- maintain appearances.
      5. Control urges, and channel them.

Is Harry a saint or a monster. Under an ethical point of view he has essentially trained his son to kill. Was encouraging Dexter to lead this life a completely good decision?

Are Harry's survival lessons honorable (i.e. the efforts of a loving father to protect his son from the world and his dark nature) or misguided to the extreme?

Harry had an affair with Dexters mom, But is Harry Dexters real Father? I think this is why Harry took Dexter and not Brian.
Is was also stated that Harry was using Dexters mom as one of his snitches and it was stated that he knew who killed her. Harry knew lot about Dexters mom I am sure more will come out soon.
